An attendee explores the possible relationships of the human species and the ground on which it exists. In An attendee , Antonia Steffens searches for the in-between spaces, where neither “one” nor “the other” can exist.
The ground and performer seem to change each other to find details and breaks of missing links, information and memory. In the catacombs of Western patriotism, where ecofeminism ties into fascism and late capitalism, the performing materials still quiver restlessly. An echo, an echo, can never, can never, back, back, captured, captured.
In this zone, the work looks for an area that can coexist with different materials and conversations, hoping to make possible ways of ‘being present’ tangible, even in impossibility and uncertainty.
Steffens was inspired by artists Alina Popa, Ana Mendieta, Camille Claudel, Chantal Akerman and Teresa Winter.
